Argentina's capital, Buenos Aires, has completed an energy-saving renovation of its public lighting system by the beginning of this month, becoming the first city in Latin America to use all LED lights for municipal lighting, Argentine media reported.

Currently, all 160,000 street lamps and landscape lights in Buenos Aires have been replaced with LED lights, which will reduce the annual electricity consumption of public lighting by 50%. The annual electricity saving is 85,000 KWH, equivalent to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 44,000 tons.It will also save 30 per cent a year on public lighting maintenance.

In addition, the renovation includes the establishment of an intelligent management system for municipal LED lights, which are monitored remotely and in real time by a computer system in the control center.
